From traditional beginnings to remote success<\/h4>\n
Scrape IT started in 2015 as a traditional company with an office in Utrecht, The Netherlands, specializing in online web scraping. When the pandemic hit in 2020, we transitioned from our office to remote work, and we have remained a fully remote company since then.<\/p>\n

This expansion has allowed us to create better software and diversify our offerings. It simplifies planning and makes it easier to control a large group of people from the top down, which is why military organizations rely on it so heavily. Web scraping is a powerful tool \u2013 and with that comes responsibility. Technically, a lot is possible. But at Scrape IT, we always ask ourselves: does it feel right?<\/em><\/p>\nWorking ethically isn\u2019t just a slogan for us \u2013 it\u2019s how we work. With every project, we ask a few key questions:<\/p>\n

Sometimes, we\u2019re unsure. That\u2019s when we talk it over as a team. And if even one of us doesn\u2019t feel good about it, we say \u201cno.\u201d Even if that means turning down a project.<\/p>\n
A real example: housing data<\/h3>\n
We sometimes collect data on homes. Developers use it to decide where to build \u2013 and we\u2019re happy to support that.<\/p>\n
But we also get requests to send a signal when a property is sold, so companies can immediately send out ads. That\u2019s where we draw the line. Nobody wants to move into a new home and be greeted by a pile of flyers. It\u2019s impersonal, inefficient, wasteful \u2013 and simply not okay.<\/p>\n
How we decide<\/h3>\n
We don\u2019t have a strict rule book when it comes to ethics. For us, it\u2019s about gut feeling and common sense. Still, we ask ourselves the same questions each time:<\/p>\n

Our view on ethics<\/h3>\n
Web scraping is a powerful tool \u2013 and with that comes responsibility. Technically, a lot is possible. But at Scrape IT, we always ask ourselves: does it feel right?<\/em><\/p>\n Working ethically isn\u2019t just a slogan for us \u2013 it\u2019s how we work. With every project, we ask a few key questions:<\/p>\n Is it allowed?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n What will the client use it for?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Are we comfortable with it?<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Sometimes, we\u2019re unsure. That\u2019s when we talk it over as a team. And if even one of us doesn\u2019t feel good about it, we say \u201cno.\u201d Even if that means turning down a project.<\/p>\n We sometimes collect data on homes. Developers use it to decide where to build \u2013 and we\u2019re happy to support that.<\/p>\n But we also get requests to send a signal when a property is sold, so companies can immediately send out ads. That\u2019s where we draw the line. Nobody wants to move into a new home and be greeted by a pile of flyers. It\u2019s impersonal, inefficient, wasteful \u2013 and simply not okay.<\/p>\n We don\u2019t have a strict rule book when it comes to ethics. For us, it\u2019s about gut feeling and common sense. Still, we ask ourselves the same questions each time:<\/p>\n <\/p>\n It\u2019s this mix of considerations that guides our decisions.<\/p>\n Web scraping opens many doors.
